Catherine's own classic cottage garden

Part of the original terracing had been removed to make way for our new conservatory. It was a great opportunity to create a new planting plan incorporating unusual and interesting plants which would give year round interest.

It was very important that the garden stayed in keeping with the house, a Victorian cottage, so local craftsmen were employed to create a garden which would be in sympathy with its surroundings and history. Kentish ragstone was used extensively and including familiar cottage garden plants in the planting plan meant that the garden was instantly in sympathy with the house.

Thorough preparation of the soil meant that the plants established very quickly (the pictures were taken just one season after planting.)
